Year 5 and 6

Welcome to the Year 5 and 6 section. We hope that you are all keeping well and looking after each other safely at home. We appreciate that you will be keen to continue exercising those wonderful brains at home, so please keep checking back at this page for activities to keep your child entertained whilst we are away from school. We believe the work for the first couple of weeks should be looking at the home learning as detailed for the specific year group your child is in.

Below, we've put some recommendations for some maths, reading and PE work that we think would be great for your child to have a go at.

If you need to contact us directly, you can email: year5_6@camelford.cornwall.sch.uk  We will endeavour to reply to your email as quickly as we can.

UPDATE 26.03.20 - We've seen some super maths, cooking and drama photos over the past few days via email. Keep up the good work! :)

PE with Joe Wicks

Exercising the body is just as important as exercising the mind. The superb Joe Wicks (the Body Coach) is doing a workout at 9am each day to keep the nation moving. Now, we know that sleep is important so don't worry if you have a lie in!

The videos are available online daily and the good news .... Joe has said he will do this everyday (not sure on weekends) until the schools are open again.

Parents, no excuses! If you wanted to send in video evidence, we of course wouldn't put that on show for everyone to see .....

Joe's youtube page can be found at the following link: Joe Wicks Youtube Channel

Maths - White Rose Problem 27.03.20

Click on the link and have a go at the maths problems. The first page of problems is designed to be the 'less challenging' of the two but we'll let you make up your mind on that.

The problems are set from White Rose maths (https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/classroom-resources/problems/) and follow the scheme of work that we use for maths lessons in class.

Email us your solutions to any problem and we'll reply with feedback! (Parents, if you get stuck on any of these, don't panic - we will help!)

The page will be updated daily with the latest problems.

Accelerated Reader

We hope you can build in time for reading into your day.  This is a great opportunity to get lost in the wonderful world of books.

In school we use Accelerated Reader to quiz on the books the children read.

Below is the AR link so that your children can log in at home. Each child can log in to their own page and we can track their progress. They are very familiar with it and know how to use it. They have usernames and passwords that they have been using for some time in school so should remember them, but if they have forgotten, just email us and we will give you their login details again.

Children are encouraged to read within their level but that may not always be possible. If you have books at home that they would like to read and quiz on, and you would like to find out the book level, you can go to this link. It will tell you the book level and points value.

https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/UserType.aspx?RedirectURL=%2fdefault.aspx

If you don’t have a book at home that your child wants to read, you find online texts/eBooks here. They are all free or are allowing free registration for the time being.

This is very useful because you can search by level.  When you register it askes you how you would like to search level books.  Please select AR.

This is last one is by Renaissance, the company that provide Accelerated Reader and is also sorted by book level.
