Camelford Area Resource Base is a specialist provision for up to 10 pupils as part of Camelford Primary School.
Pupils can begin attending from Reception Class age and can remain until year 6.
Places are allocated by Cornwall Council following requests for admission from parents.
Currently all pupils have to have an EHCP to be eligible for a place.
The range of additional needs of the pupils in the class at the present time is very varied and includes pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, pupils with epilepsy and complex needs, pupils with genetic conditions leading to learning disabilities plus others.
We have a large bright classroom, a separate sensory room and a fully equipped bathroom.
Outside we have a securely fenced garden with a grassed area, hard surfaces and a raised flower bed containing plants grown for their multi-sensory properties. We have a play area with a climbing frame, nest swing, seasaw and lots of toys!
One of the advantages of the Area Resource Base provision is the opportunity for inclusion. Pupils have access to the mainstream life of the school whilst also following the specialist curriculum that they need.
Within Polzeath class they follow programmes incorporating specialist approaches to meet their individual needs whilst continuing to access a broad curriculum based on a nationally agreed syllabus. Our staffing levels are such that children are able to receive the individual attention that they may need.
At playtimes they join their mainstream peers in the playground, they eat alongside them at lunchtime and they join in assemblies and whole school activities. Pupils can also benefit from joining their mainstream classmates for some lessons in the week when appropriate.

Violet won The Shaun Merrifield Endeavour Cup for achievement, this was because when she started 4 years ago she couldn't even sit up on a pony and she has progressed to using a saddle in the last week and competed in a saddle and came third! Very proud parents!!!
